MMAjunkie.com has just reported that the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies’ Boxing Commission has issued UFC fighter Jake Shields a six-month suspension for using a prohibited substance prior to his fight at UFC 150, the fighter today announced.

Weigh-ins for ‘UFC 150: Henderson vs Edgar II’ took place Friday afternoon at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, the same venue that hosts the fights Saturday night. Melvin Guillard was the only fighter who missed weight at 157.5. He was given two hours to cut to the lightweight maximum of 156 pounds, but he elected instead to surrender an undisclosed percentage of his fight purse to Cerrone.
Overall, Guillard missing weight was the only real point of interest during the weigh-in. He really looked like he was struggling as he made his way to the scale. It’s much better for the body though to not force out those last few pounds. so smart move to just concede the percentage of his purse. Given Guillard and Cerrone are buddies, Cerrone probably didn’t even charge him.

Here we are again, Henderson vs Edgar, and yet another Edgar rematch. The lightweight division has taken a serious beating over this rematch bs. It wasn’t too long ago, when the WEC merged into the UFC, that the lightweight division was by far the deepest and competitively intriguing division in the UFC. You could almost go ten deep and find a champion. No other division was even close. That is just no longer the case though as rematches have hindered many top fighters from getting a title shot and the exposure they are warranted. This results in a less dynamic and intriguing division overall.
