UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman

Overview
Mike Pierce will be stepping into the Octagon for the 12th time in his career. He’s gone 8-3 while fighting for the UFC, with the three losses coming against top ranked opponents Jon Fitch, Johny Hendricks, and Josh Koscheck. The Fitch loss was back in 2009 by unanimous decision, and the Hendricks and Kos losses came more recently, both by split decisions. In fact, all five of his career losses have come by decision. Pierce is a tough, experienced, and well-rounded fighter who’s currently on a 3-fight win streak. He was probably expecting a higher ranked opponent for his next fight, but it looks like he’ll have to get through Mitchell first.

TUF Smashes goes to the U.K.

A great night of fights down under as we had a bunch of exciting finishes and some very close and hard fought decisions. The coaches topped it all off with a brilliant fight. You could see that these guys really don’t like each other and that there was so much at stake for both them. Ross ended up winning ‘TUF Smashes’ for England as he won his fight and Norman Parke won his. A solid effort though by George and the Aussies.

Overall, it was a great season of TUF and the finals certainly capped it off nicely. Both finals were tough fought fights with all of the fighters leaving it all in the Octagon. Norman Parke really impressed by controlling his fight and keeping the dangerous Colin Fletcher at bay. Robert Whittaker fought like a warrior and defeated a tough Bradley Scott as the two really went at it.

Weigh-ins for ‘UFC on FX 6: Sotiropoulos vs Pearson’ took place today at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. All 20 fighters made weight.

It started out as a pretty standard weigh-in and then the fun and excitement ratcheted up towards the end. Rousimar and Hector, two extremely fit dudes, had some weird flag battle going on. Rousimar came flying into the weigh-ins with his Braztralia cape on and Hector wore his flag as a pair of shorts. Not sure what the heck is going on there but it seemed significant to them. Colin Fletcher was next up to entertain. It was his first UFC weigh-in and he didn’t disappoint. He’s a photographers dream. Finally, Ross and George had a pretty serious stare down. These guys really don’t like each other and the extra pressure of letting your country down should make it a good one.

Welterweight Mike Pierce (15-5) has stepped in for injured Kyle Noke (20-6-1) to take on Seth Baczynski (17-6) at ‘UFC on FX 6: Sotiropoulos vs Pearson’ happening December 15th in Australia.

Since losing to Brad Tavares at the TUF 11 finale, TUF 11 cast member Seth Baczynski has been on a tear. He’s won his last six fights in a row including a first round KO of Simeon Thoresen his last time out at UFC 152. This will be his third fight in a little over five months.
