Pat Schilling cut by the UFC

Pat Schilling cut by the UFCFeatherweight Pat Schilling (5-2) announced via Twitter that he’s been cut by the UFC. Schilling had started his career 5-0 before he made his UFC debut this past January. He was working at Best Buy when he got the call from the UFC to take a short-notice fight with Daniel Pineda (17-8) at UFC on FX 1. Pineda submitted Schilling at 1:37 into the first round with a rear-naked choke.

Schilling would get another shot though in the UFC earlier this month at the TUF: Live finale against Max Holloway (5-1). Holloway beat him up pretty badly but Schilling showed some serious chin and heart. He ended up losing by unanimous decision but his effort could end up getting him even another shot, even with this announcement.

From his Twitter account (@PatSchilling):

“I’ve officially been cut by the UFC. I am the luckiest guy in the world for the opportunity I was given. Thanks to all of you for the love.”

Given all the injuries that are happening these days, it’s very possible we haven’t seen the last of Pat Schilling.
