The UFC held a press conference in NYC on Thursday for it’s upcoming UFC on FOX 3 event this Saturday. The embedded YouTube video is below.
Some highlights if you don’t want to sit through the video:
o Koscheck said the booing doesn’t get to him, especially from “a bunch of couch potatoes and Internet lawyers
o Koscheck: “I’m gonna get to put Johny to sleep in front of you guys on FOX”. Hendricks just smiled.
o Dana addressed the question about whether or not the winner of Diaz and Miller would get a title shot. He said that it would mean Diaz would be on the shelf for nine months so it would be tough, and then just said he would see who wins and take it from there. He gave the same answer for Koscheck-Hendricks and Palhares-Belcher.
o Nate Diaz was asked the same question about a title shot next and simply replied “I got a fight on Saturday” and the crowd applauded the brief reply.
o Palhares answered ‘Yes’ to a question about if life is easier for him with the UFC gaining popularity in Brazil (due to funding and better training). In Portugese of course.
o Jim Miller with sponsorship from TapOut are donating $10/per walkout shirt sold, to his nephew’s charity foundation
o Dana said UFC events coming to NY is not a question of if but when
o Dana said that the Mayweather fight later in the night and UFC on FOX 3 compliment each other
o “I don’t hate the media. Sometimes I’m probably in a better mood for it, ya know…I think you guys are doing great” – a somewhat sarcastic Nate Diaz
o Lavar Johnson said he was blessed and happy to be part of the event after being asked about how it’s been going since being shot seven times
o Dana said Jon Jones is getting close to clearing out the Light Heavyweight Division but it will be a while on making the call on moving to Heavyweight
o A fan asked if he could walk out with a fighter. Dana looked around and said it’s up to you guys. Miller said okay so the lucky/stupid bastard gets to fulfill his dream
o Belcher was pretty confident he will win and put on a great show
o “What submission am I gonna beat Lavar Johnson with? Something new is in the works. I can’t name it yet. Um, I don’t know. I don’t know. It’s coming. We’re gonna pull something out of this bag of tricks”…”You’re probably not going to see one.” – Pat Barry
o Dana said Cowboy Stadium is a very possible event location for the January time-frame
o Dana summed it all up with his predictions on how the fights might go:
“I don’t see Barry and Lavar going the distance”
“He’s (Belcher) gonna keep it standing and try not to go to the ground, he’s (Palhares) going to try to go the ground and rip his leg off”
“These two guys (Koscheck and Hendricks) are both great wrestlers with knockout power, who knows what’s going to happen?”
“These two? (Diaz and Miller) If this fight sucks, I don’t know what to tell you man. I mean, these two are going to go in there and go at it for one round or five rounds, there gonna go.”
