We all know who Jose Aldo is, and we know how brilliant his KO of Chad Mendes was at UFC 142. I still get chills watching the mad Brazilian fans hoist the local hero on their shoulders as he draped himself in a country flag. Brilliant.
Two Featherweights and fellow countrymen, Yuri Alcantara (27-3) and Hacran Dias (20-1-1) are hoping to follow in Aldo’s footsteps but will have to go through each other first at UFC 147 in Rio before that can happen.
Both of these fighters have been red hot. Alcantara has won his last 13 bouts and Dias his last 8. The last two fights for Alcantara have been in the Octagon whereas Dias is a newcomer, who just signed recently to fight in the UFC. However, he’s been a regular sparring partner of Jose Aldo so he’s not as raw as his background suggests.
These are two of the top Featherweights in the world and I can’t wait to see them battle it out on their home turf and in front of their entire country. I can’t imagine they’ve had a bigger fight in there career. So much at stake with some rather larger footsteps to follow.
